Speaker Profile
Michael E. Gordon
Michael E. Gordon is an award-winning photographic artist best known for his black and white images from California’s deserts which, said Broughton Quarterly, portray “stunning ethereal beauty from terrain where others see only a bleak landscape.” A lifelong student of nature and wilderness adventurer, Michael’s intimate relationship with the natural world results in quiet images of depth and discovery. His relationship with and photography of California’s deserts spans more than 30 years.
Michael’s work has been widely exhibited and is held internationally in the private collections of the United States Embassy, Kaiser Permanente; Milken Family Foundation; The Wilderness Society, and many others. His photographs have been widely published, including B+W Photography (UK); Medium Format magazine; SHOTS; On Landscape (UK); View Camera; Rangefinder; Broughton Quarterly; Arte Fotográfico, Backpacker; and more. His work has been awarded by the International Photography Awards, Prix de la Photographie Paris, and Black & White Spider Awards.
Michael owns and operates Death Valley Photo Tours and co-founded Visionary Photography Workshops with Guy Tal. He lives in Southern California with his wife Shauna.

Immense, Silent, and Sacred
My relationship with California’s deserts spans more than thirty years. Curiosity and awe combined with a deep reverence for and love of these lands has led to numerous unique bodies of photographic work and a lifetime of artistic fulfillment. I will share inspirational photographs and stories from my experiences in the land of little rain while touching on fine art printing, display, and exhibition.
