Our Mission: Educate and Promote Photography as Fine Art
Photography encompasses a huge variety of genres and uses. We are artists and view photography as a means of creative and personal expression.
Photography as a fine art involves a mindset, a method and a dedication to the craft of image making which has some subtle but important differences compared with other photographic disciplines.
Primary among these is an ‘inside-out’ approach, in which we create artistic imagery inspired by our own imagination, emotions and views on our world. This approach is in stark contrast to the goals of purely commercial photography, where the needs of a client and working to a brief are necessary.
Photographic artists face an uphill battle; this is as it has always been. Most people (including some early-stage photographers) assume that with the right equipment, brilliant images come easy. More experiences practitioners know this is not the case.
We created The Art of Photography Conference to inspire and educate artists working with photography as their primary medium.
The Art of Photography Conference is a production of Gallery PHOTIQ in Royal Leamington Spa, England.
We are Nat and Ruth Coalson, a husband and wife team and the owners of PHOTIQ.
Nat is a photographic artist, well known for his art, writing and teaching. Ruth is an expert in business development, event production and marketing, with an exemplary track record in the creative sector.
We’re both experts in events: Nat as a speaker and presenter; Ruth as an organiser and marketer. We launched The Art of Photography Conference to serve a unique, under-served niche in the photography sector.
